Free Wi-Fi is being added at four more busy Tyne and Wear Metro stations through the Metro Connect network. The expansion will give thousands of passengers another way to get online and access data at no charge while using the system.
The service is accessed through the Pop App and is part of a wider push to improve the day-to-day experience for Metro customers. For travellers using public transport around the North East, it could be useful for checking onward connections, loading tickets, messaging accommodation hosts or sorting out plans while waiting for a train.
What Is Changing on the Tyne and Wear Metro?
Metro Connect is already available at some stations, and the next phase will install the free Wi-Fi service at four additional high-traffic stations. The stations and installation timetable have not yet been confirmed, so keep an eye on Metro updates before relying on it for a particular journey.
Passengers will be able to access data and get online without a charge through the Pop App, which is useful when you need to check a platform change or send the inevitable “running five minutes late” message.
