Southwest Airlines Starlink Wi-Fi Rollout Reaches More Than 47 Planes

Southwest Airlines’ Starlink Wi-Fi rollout has reached 47 aircraft now connected to Starlink, chief customer and brand officer Tony Roach told AirlineGeeks on October 15, 2026. That takes the airline beyond three dozen equipped planes, with work continuing to bring the satellite internet service to its entire fleet.

Passenger service began this summer, but you cannot count on Starlink for every booking yet. Here is where installation stands, when Southwest expects to finish and what to check before you fly.

Southwest’s Starlink Wi-Fi Rollout Reaches 47 Aircraft

Southwest partnered with Starlink earlier in 2026, and its first equipped aircraft entered service during the summer. Roach’s count of 47 connected aircraft shows how far the retrofit programme has progressed.

Roach described customer feedback as overwhelmingly positive. He said Southwest was prioritising rapid installation so passengers could expect consistent connectivity across its network.

“The consistency is something we really want to focus on,” Roach told AirlineGeeks.

He used flights to El Paso and Honolulu as examples of Southwest’s aim to offer the same Wi-Fi experience on every aircraft. Those examples explain the ambition, rather than confirm Starlink availability on any particular flight.

Fleetwide Installation Targeted for Autumn 2027

Southwest’s October 15 announcement sets fall 2027 for fleetwide Starlink completion. The airline expects to become the first major US carrier to equip its entire fleet with the technology. For now, that is Southwest’s expectation, not a completed milestone.

Earlier in 2026, the carrier set a target of installing Starlink on more than 300 aircraft by the end of 2026. The 47-aircraft update shows its progress in October; the autumn 2027 deadline is the target for finishing the whole fleet.

Southwest describes the planned service as high-speed connectivity between take-off and landing. It announced the fleetwide target alongside changes to its Rapid Rewards loyalty programme.

What the Update Means for Passengers

Wi-Fi is free for Rapid Rewards members through T-Mobile, with access limited to designated Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft and subject to availability.

Starlink is already serving Southwest passengers, following the first equipped aircraft’s entry into service this summer. Still, 47 connected planes does not guarantee Starlink on your booking: availability depends on the aircraft operating your flight as installation continues.
