Travelers loyal to either JetBlue or United Airlines are getting more reasons to stick with their preferred airline this summer. The two carriers have rolled out a major update to their growing “Blue Sky” partnership, adding reciprocal elite benefits that make flying across both networks far more seamless.
The latest phase of the collaboration allows eligible members of JetBlue’s TrueBlue and United’s MileagePlus programs to receive premium-style perks when flying on either airline, even if they are not traveling with their home carrier.
What Travelers Can Now Expect
Frequent flyers who attach their loyalty number to a booking can now access several shared benefits designed to reduce airport stress and improve comfort during the trip.
Newly Shared Elite Benefits Include:
- Priority boarding
- Priority check-in and select security access
- Complimentary extra-legroom seating at check-in
- Preferred seat selection after booking
- One free checked bag
- Priority baggage handling
- Same-day standby opportunities
For example, United Premier members flying with JetBlue may gain access to EvenMore seating, while JetBlue Mosaic members traveling on United can use Economy Plus seating when available.
The boarding perks are also tiered. Higher-level elites from both programs receive earlier boarding groups depending on their status level.
A Bigger Push Toward Connected Travel
The update builds on changes introduced after the airlines launched their Blue Sky partnership last year. Travelers can already:
- Book select flights across both airlines’ websites
- Earn loyalty points on eligible itineraries
- Redeem rewards across participating routes
The next step could make the partnership even more valuable for international and multi-city travelers. The airlines say they are working toward offering combined itineraries on a single ticket, which would allow passengers to mix JetBlue and United flights more easily in one reservation.
That could significantly expand options for travelers looking to combine JetBlue’s strong leisure routes with United’s extensive domestic and international network.
Why This Matters for Travelers
Airline partnerships often focus heavily on backend operations, but this update is much more customer-facing. Frequent flyers increasingly expect elite recognition no matter which partner airline they use, especially as route networks continue to overlap and travelers prioritize flexibility.
For JetBlue customers, the partnership opens easier access to United’s massive global reach. Meanwhile, United loyalists gain more convenient access to JetBlue’s popular East Coast and Caribbean-focused routes.
The expanded perks also arrive as airlines compete more aggressively for premium and frequent travelers ahead of another busy travel season.
More Changes Could Still Be Coming
While the current rollout focuses on loyalty perks and booking flexibility, both airlines hinted that additional integration features are still ahead. Connected ticketing between the two carriers remains one of the most anticipated upgrades for travelers who regularly combine airlines on longer trips.
For now, frequent flyers on both sides are getting a noticeably smoother airport experience — without needing to switch loyalty programs.
